Over the past year, Canton Elementary’s book vending machine has become a very popular and fun way for students to pick out their next read— and keep it! PTA President Deb Fitzwater explained that, while it is sometimes a challenge to know what books the students will be interested in choosing, the vending machine has proved to be a huge success.
“The hardest thing for us is knowing what the kids are gonna be interested in,” says Fitzwater. “The kids are definitely interested in the machine, but then you have to make sure the machine is filled with books that interest them.”
In the past year alone, the book vending machine has distributed 548 free books to elementary students. The book vending machine makes the process of picking out a book even more exciting, and we can’t wait to hear how its impact grows over the coming years.
