Burleigh named first team All-State

Burleigh named first team All-State

by Ed Weaver - April 18, 2017

North Penn-Mansfield senior Brock Burleigh was named first team All-State in Class AA basketball on Friday, April 14. Burleigh was a third team selection during the 2015-16 season, and was the only public school selection on the first team.

“I am very excited and honored to receive this achievement,” Burleigh said. “This achievement means so much to me because it has recognized all of the hours and hard work I have put in over the last 12 years.”

Burleigh led the Tigers to a District IV Class AA championship, a share of the NTL Large School Championship and a 21-6 record, a state tournament berth, and led the Tigers statistically in scoring (21.2 points per game), field goal percentage (62%), assists (4.2 per game), steals (2.4 per game) and in taking charges. He also averaged 10 rebounds per game.

Burleigh finished his career scoring over 1,100 points and grabbing over 600 rebounds.

“As a coach, I am very proud of Brock’s accomplishment,” said North Penn-Mansfield head coach Kipper Burleigh. “He is in elite company as the only public player named to the 1st Team. He was fortunate to have such a great team around him, and to have so many outstanding senior teammates, like Shane Kelly.

“As a father, he is the most complete player that I have ever coached,” Coach Burleigh continued. “I am somewhat speechless, as his older brother Bo, was also named all-state his senior year. My wife and I have been very blessed to have sons who are mentally tough and have tremendous work-ethics. They put a lot of time in weight-lifting, doing plyometrics, and working on their games year-round. They both played four years of varsity basketball and neither one of them ever missed a single practice or game. Our team, and especially me, will really miss him.”
