Students from schools all over Bradford County came together last Friday, April 24th, to test their knowledge in the areas of forestry, wildlife, aquatics, soils, and a current issue at the County Envirothon event. Every school in Bradford County was represented by at least one team of five students at the competition. Teams were tasked with visiting stations that were set up around Mount Pisgah State Park and filling out tests based on each topic. The competitors spent the day identifying trees, soils, fish, animal tracks, bird calls, and answering environmental questions.
Dan Rhodes, Bradford County Conservation District Education Program Manager explained, “quote quote quote about what Envirothon is and why it’s important.”
Once all the scores were tallied up, the “Woodcock Warriors” team from Northeast Bradford took home first place. The team was excited about their win, as it means they get to move on to compete at Pennsylvania State Envirothon. “We love the opportunity to expand our horizons and learn more things about the environment,” Sarah Gray expressed.
Each first place team member also got to take home a bottle of maple syrup, a birdhouse building kit, and a study guide of their choice. The teams that made second and third place, “Longboard Legends” from Towanda and “The Plattys” from Troy, got to select study material as well.
