Bradford County Ag Students Release Trout, Eels in Hands-On Learning Event
Agriculture classes across Bradford County came together on Friday, May 1st, to release trout and eels they had been raising over the past few months. The group gathered Friday morning to release the trout into the Towanda Creek and release the eels in the Susquehanna River. After that, they traveled to Wysox for a day of educational stations arranged by Penn State Extension. The stations included bird identification, an underwater drone, animal pelt identification, macro invertebrate collection and identification, making string from plants, electro fishing, and identifying non-native species.
In addition, FFA and agriculture students attended the Bradford County Dairy Judging Competition on Thursday, April 30th, at Shoresbrook Farm. Students not only got to judge cows and present their reasons to a judge, but also got to learn about a cow’s reproductive tract, the first four months of cow pregnancy, and simulated the process of suturing a cow using a banana. Thank you to our local school districts and Agriculture teachers for giving students in our area opportunities like these.
