Borough Council Meeting 1/6/2020

Borough Council Meeting 1/6/2020

by Joshua Allen - January 6, 2020

January 6th the Wellsboro Borough Council met at the Borough Office building. The Council members, led by Council President Craig West, approved 14 motions, re-appointed several positions, and swore in newly elected council members: Mike Wood, Louis Prevost, and Joan Hart. Wood and Prevost are serving additional terms, and Joan Hart is serving her first. Here are the rest of the highlights.

A motion was passed to authorize Borough Manager, Scot F. Boyce Jr, to advertise Ordinance #697, and revise the language of Chapter 21, Section 302 relating to Street and Sidewalk Obstructions. The added language reads, “No person shall deposit grass clippings, leaves, or snow on any street or sidewalk in the Borough: excluding those times when snow may be moved to the metered parking spaces along Main Street during snow removal following snow events.”

Another motion was passed to authorize Chief of Police Jim Bodine to begin the process of pricing and ordering “new police vehicle for delivery 2021.”

Next, it was announced that Northern Tier Solid Waste Authority is no longer accepting electronics. Like before, electronics, like televisions and computers, will not be collected with regular garbage pickup, and further, there is no place to dispose of them currently. NTSWA is working towards disposal options for borough residents.

The last of the meeting included the passing of a motion to approve several town events and requests for road closures. These include events like the Pet Parade, Laurel Festival, STPR, Dickens, and more.
