Blossburg Hosts Open Air Job Fair

by Rachel Smith - May 26, 2021

Mansfield, PA, May 25th, 2021 – With current labor shortages creating problems for many local employers, the Southern Tioga School District saw an opportunity to help out. The district hosted Open Air Job Fairs at their Mansfield and Liberty high school campuses to bring students and employers together. Carissa Flook, a guidance counselor intern, came up with the idea when she noticed that students don’t often realize the job opportunities that exist right in their own backyards.

Seniors and juniors from the schools came out to the job fairs, many with resumes in hand. Carissa described the fairs as a great opportunity to apply the communication and writing skills that these students are currently learning in their English classes.

Many of the students were excited for the chance to meet with multiple employers and pick up a variety of job applications while at school. Some students were in search of summer part time jobs, while others were thinking of their long term goals. A number of different industries were present including banking, manufacturing, food service, automotive, and the Armed Forces.

Heather Deitrick from First Citizen’s Community Bank noted that the school is great about creating and communicating opportunities like this for the community to come together. Employers left with many prospects that will hopefully turn into future employees soon.
