Blossburg Honors Freedom Heroes

by John Vogt - May 31, 2023

This past Memorial Day, residents came together in Blossburg, Pennsylvania to celebrate our freedom and remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Blossburg made it clear that we will never forget and always be grateful.

The ceremony took place at the Blossburg Veterans Memorial. Citizens were welcomed by their mayor, the honorable Shane Nickerson. The master of ceremonies was county commissioner Roger Bunn. Mrs. Sandra Olson presented the invocation, pastor of the Siloa Lutheran Church in Morris Run, PA. Local Girl Scouts presented the colors. Stephen Ruth, a North Penn-Mansfield High School senior, played our national anthem. The keynote speaker for the event was state representative Clint Owlett. June Teague and Roger Bunn read the names of our fallen heroes. Stephen Ruth played America the Beautiful. The Bucktails presented the fifle salute. Sandra Olson gave the benediction with Taps, played by Eli Clark, a senior at North Penn-Mansfield High School, and Zachary Clark, who is in 9th grade at North Penn-Mansfield High School.

Special thanks to the Blossburg American Legion, who served lunch after the program, all the participating students, The Bucktails, Blossburg Veterans of Foreign Wars, Blossburg Sons of the American Legion, Blossburg Masonic Lodge, the Girl Scouts, Frank Jr., and Mary Higgins.

Finally, we thank the One who paid the highest sacrifice of all to set us free from sin and death. God loves us so much that He gave His one and only son to die for us so that whoever believes in Him will be forgiven and have everlasting life.
