Block Party Held For Child Abuse Prevention and Foster Care Awareness

by Dusty Owen - May 18, 2023

On Saturday, May 13th, The Green in Wellsboro was filled with Tioga County residents from all over. Many organizations and volunteers came together to show their support and raise awareness about Child Abuse Prevention and the need for more people to stand forward and become Foster Parents if they are able.

The Tioga County Fire Department, local law enforcement, Concern, Develop Tioga, and Partners in Progress to name a few were all there ready to give any information or assistance needed to those in search of it.

This annual event featured a variety of attractions. Everyone was given free food and beverages. Among the festivities were a photo booth, dunk tank, blow-up bouncy house, games, and other informational booths as well as activities for everyone to learn from and enjoy.

How Can You Help?
Child abuse and the need for more foster care homes and supportive community members are inextricably linked. With an increasing number of children being removed from their parents and placed in foster care due to abuse and neglect, the need for community people to come together in support is more important than ever.

Here are a couple of ways that you can assist or show your support:
– Call Childline at 1-800-932-0313 If you suspect child abuse or neglect.
– If you would like to look into becoming a Foster or Resource Parent, You can contact Family Services Foster Care Unit at (570)724-5766.

Thank you to all of the organizations and community members that come together every year to make this event possible!

“Events like these aren’t only for having fun. They are intended to promote awareness of what is going on in our neighborhood. These events demonstrate the need of working together to help children in these situations enjoy the life they deserve, free of abuse and neglect.”
