Bikes, Baseball and Fireworks!

by Deb Bastian - June 28, 2022

There’s fun in Mansfield for the Fourth of July! Start early by decorating your bike, trike, scooter or wagon for the Gate House bike decorating contest. Contestants will be divided into two age groups, 2nd grade and younger and 3rd grade through rising 7th graders. Registration and judging will be at 10:00 in the Warren L Miller bus loop. There will be prizes and cash awards for the most patriotic, the most colorful and out of this world. Also awarded will be the Gate House Award to the judge’s favorite in each age group. The bikes will parade to the Gate House led by one of Mansfield’s beautiful and big fire trucks for the awards ceremony. The Gate House thanks all the volunteers helping with the contest, and Lowes for donating flags for everyone attending the event. Special thank you to ReMax, Mansfield Borough, A Scoop Back In Time, and the Victoria Theater for prizes for the bike contest.

While you are on the park, be sure to stop into the Gate House and make your final bids on the beautiful art that local and not-so-local artists have created. The art pieces will be on display inside The Gate House from 10:00 until 1:00 when the auction will be closed and winners determined. You’re also invited to check out the art pieces on Face Book at Save the Gate House and send a bid to info@savethegatehouse.org.

From 10:00 until 2:00 in the Lions Pavilion on Smythe Park, the family of Jack Novak will have a celebration of life for the beloved principal of Warren L. Miller Elementary School. There will be refreshments and music. At 11:00until 2:00 the YMCA will have a children’s carnival on the green beside their building. And when you get hungry, the Mansfield Lions Club will have BBQ chicken in Smythe Park.

The afternoon in Mansfield is all about baseball when the Destroyers host the Olean Oilers in a double header with the first game at 2:00 at Shaute Field. Admission for all is just $2.00. At 5:00 there will be a tribute to our veterans between ball games and a raffle drawing. At 5:30 the Destroyers and the Oilers play game two.

The celebrating continues at dusk when the fireworks go off! Months of fundraising in the community by the 4th of July Committee makes it possible to end the day with a bang!
Have a safe and happy Fourth of July Home Page Friends!
