Battle of the Bugs: Fight Back Against This Invasive Pest

by Erica Parks - July 16, 2025

Summer has officially arrived, and with it, a new environmental concern for Tioga County and surrounding residents. A recently identified invasive insect species, originally from China and Vietnam, is making its way across the region. While not harmful to humans, this pest poses a serious threat to our local environment.

Experts say the insects feed by sucking sap from trees, leading to oozing, wilting, and even tree death. In addition, they excrete a sticky substance that promotes mold growth and damages nearby vegetation.

So, what can be done to stop them? Joining us today is Mike White, owner of Tree Master LLC, to share practical advice and preventative tips for residents looking to protect their property and local greenery from these damaging invaders.
