Back to Basics: Purpose

by Pastor TJ Freeman - March 1, 2019

Do you exist to be a good parent? A good spouse? To make others happy? To serve your country? To enjoy the world around you?

Maybe you’re not sure what your purpose is. Or maybe, like many, you feel your purpose changes with each season of life.
It may not be easy to summarize your purpose in a sentence, but it’s an important topic to consider. Without a sense of purpose life can become mundane, meaningless, and confusing.

In Genesis 1:1 we learn something about our purpose. The Bible teaches that, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth.” You didn’t happen by accident. You were created! In an act of infinite wisdom, God made you with a clear purpose — to live for His glory!

Living for God’s glory begins with knowing Christ. Although we were created for God’s glory, we have all sinned and fallen short of it (Romans 3:23). Our sin separates us from God (Romans 6:23) and pulls us away from our created purpose. But, through Christ our sins can all be forgiven! Because Christ shed His blood on the cross, we can trust His sacrifice as the payment for our sins. All who trust Christ are restored to a meaningful relationship with God. In Christ we are can once again serve our real purpose — to bring glory to God!

No matter what you do, do it for God’s glory and you will be serving the greatest purpose of all.
