Autumn is proof that change is beautiful

Autumn is proof that change is beautiful

by Natalie Himmelberger - September 22, 2022

Today is the first day of autumn, also known as the Autumn Equinox. The moment when the tilt of our Earth begins to away from its maximum lean toward the Sun. Autumn often brings to mind cool crisp mornings, warm afternoon sunshine with just a bit of chill in the air; favorite drinks like apple cider and pumpkin lattes; sweaters and football.

We each have our own favorite aspect of when summer changes into autumn. Whether it’s the changing of color in the leaves, changing our wardrobes over, or even the changing of our clocks falling back an hour! But change isn’t always put in a positive light. Perhaps it is because change is difficult. Students change grades in the fall, yet this gives them new opportunities to grow. We may change our diets in fall, but it gives us the opportunity to be healthier. It is not easy to change – but how much of that is due to our own perceptions? Do we dislike change because it means we will have to grow and adjust to something new and unknown?

The reason leaves are changing colors is because the tree is conserving its resources so it can grow stronger and better next spring. Changes are difficult but it gives each one of us another new opportunity for growth; a second chance. So perhaps autumn isn’t about change so much as it is about preparing for growth; and that is what is beautiful.
