The Athens Wildcats delivered a statement win on Friday night, September 19, overpowering North Penn-Mansfield 54-13 at Island Park.

The Wildcats set the tone early. Inside the Panthers’ 10-yard line, quarterback Connor Davidson dropped the snap but turned the broken play into points by scrambling into the end zone. Zachary Fisher’s extra point put Athens ahead 7-0.

From there, the Wildcats took control, piling on 41 unanswered points through the first half and into the third quarter as their offense shredded the Panthers’ defense.

North Penn-Mansfield finally found life with just under six minutes left in the third. Luke Kreger fielded a kickoff and returned it the length of the field for a touchdown, cutting the deficit to 41-6.

Athens quickly responded, continuing their offensive onslaught. Midway through the fourth quarter, Davidson found Kaden Rowe over the middle for the highlight of the night. Rowe tipped the pass to himself, shook a defender, and sprinted the rest of the way for a touchdown. With the kick good, Athens capped its scoring at 54-6.

The Panthers added one final spark on special teams. Colton Pellett took a kickoff return the distance, with Brody Grinnell adding the extra point to make it 54-13, where the score would stand.

With the decisive win, Athens improves their season outlook and will look to keep momentum going. North Penn-Mansfield will aim to bounce back as they travel to face Warrior Run this Friday.
