Artist Spotlight: Megan McGarry

by Amiee Jones - June 14, 2017

Megan McGarry has grown up in the world of Bluegrass. Her father, Chris McGarry, shared his passion for music with her by putting a fiddle in her hands at the young age of 5. It wasn’t long before she caught the Bluegrass bug. Now, when not attending classes at Berkelee College of Music in Boston, Megan and Chris tour together as a father-daughter duo. Megan just completed her third year at Berkelee, and shared that she feels thankful for the amazing opportunity of growth the school provides.

Megan took some time to share about a few of the songs on her debut album. Finding inspiration from her surroundings, nature, and situations in her life, she has been able to write and record these original tracks, and is now performing them wherever she goes. Much of her inspiration comes from the roots of the music she has devoted her life to. By taking those traditional sounds, and creating an authentic, original sound, Megan continues to prove herself and an accomplished songwriter.

On Monday night, Chris and Megan were back by popular demand at the Deane Center, playing a community concert. Their set list included some traditional songs, Bluegrass standards, and of course, some original content! And, in August we can enjoy the Father/Daughter Duo again at Hickory Fest! (Aug. 18-20)

For more information about Megan McGarry, how to catch a show, or ordering her album, please visit her website! And, make sure you take the chance to enjoy her music it Hickory Fest 2017*!
