Applicants Sought for the 2020 Galeton Foundation Scholarship

In 1988, Lucille Gale Knapp established the William & L.R. Gale Community Foundation to honor the memory of her father L. R. Gale and grandfather William Gale. The Gale family came to the Pine Creek Valley in 1880 and built the largest sole leather tannery in the U.S. at the junction of Pine Creek and West Branch. The tannery employed over 200 people and was the life blood of the community for over 50 years. Nearly 100 years after William Gale arrived here, his granddaughter, Lucille Gale Knapp returned to Galeton and fell in love with the area where she created the William & L.R. Gale Community Foundation commonly referred to as The Galeton Foundation.

The Galeton Foundation was created and intended to be operated exclusively for religious, charitable, scientific, literary and educational purposes or for the prevention of cruelty to children or animals within the Borough of Galeton and its environs but all within the County of Potter and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Over the past 32 years, the Galeton Foundation has provided scholarships towards higher education for numerous Galeton High School students. Grants have also been awarded to support the new public library in Galeton and Collins Park, along with many other worthwhile Galeton projects.

C&N Wealth Management, Trustee of the Galeton Foundation, administrates the account. Applications for scholarships and grants are available on C&N’s website cnbankpa.com/GaletonFoundation.
