Anything Can Happen at Seussical the Musical!
Where can you find bright costumes, a lively story, and heartwarming music? Seussical the Musical, of course! Cowanesque Valley High School is proud to present Seussical, a project they have been diligently preparing for months. The show is a playful combination of the stories of renowned children’s author Dr. Suess, and the students are sure their audience will fall in love with the story, just like they have.
Co-producer, Heather McClaren, describes Seussical’s plot as, “perfect for the whole family!” Centering largely around Dr. Seuss’s character “Horton the Elephant”, the show follows Horton’s journey of finding, and ultimately protecting, the smallest planet in the universe. This colony of people called “Whos” exists on a speck of dust. Even in the face of ridicule, “Horton stubbornly persists in his belief that the Whos exist. Traveling everywhere from the Jungle of Nool to McEligott’s Pool, some of the characters fall in love, some have adventures, and some even save the world!” (Co-Producer, Heather McClaren).
Preparing the show’s musical repertoire was a big undertaking for the CV cast. During the process the students have grown closer, and learned the satisfaction of hard work and accomplishment. Zach Cooper (playing the role of Cat in the Hat) said, “This musical has given me the opportunity to really get to know what people can do if they put their mind to it.” “The musical is one of the best parts of my school year, and this one is no exception. It’s allowed me too connect with others and make more friends, while also hanging out with some of my best friends. My favorite song is ‘Alone in the Universe’. It’s for anyone who’s ever felt alone, and in need of a friend. It gives you the hope to keep your head up, and fate will lead you to a friend” (Haley Millard in the role of Jo Jo).
Peer in to Seussical’s kaleidoscope of whimsy this weekend! Showtimes are are March 17 and 18 at 7pm, and March 19 at 2pm, in the CV auditorium. “The show is an amusing and entertaining performance for all ages. It’s like one big mash up of a bunch of Dr. Seuss stories, and I think it should be a lot of fun for people to see their favorite stories come to life on the stage!” (Amaya Walker, playing Mayzie La Bird).
