Antique Automobiles & Classic Cars

by Home Page Staff - July 20, 2017

On Wednesday, July 19, Tioga County took a trip back in time as the Antique Automobile Club of America rolled onto The Green in Wellsboro for their 2017 National Vintage Tour. This event is held during odd-numbered years and includes vehicles manufactured in 1931 or earlier.

“There are 12 states represented [today] and three countries,” said tour chairman, Thomas Roberts. “…including 49 cars. It covers everything from a 1914 Overland, that’s our oldest car on the tour, to some 1931 models.”

Members of the Tyoga Motor Club also made an appearance as many local drives arrived to connect with other enthusiasts and share about their cars. Families, friends and automobile fans alike roamed The Green and admired these landmarks of automotive history.

“The heart of the tour really is people,” Roberts continued. “Because it’s about hobbyists enjoying their cars, but really enjoying each other.”

Some of the participants also shared why they enjoyed their antique rides.

“Because you drive them,” said Barry Each, owner of a 1931 Chrysler Imperial. “You have to think ahead coming up to a stop sign because they don’t stop on a dime. You have to put your head back into the 20’s and 30’s and it’s just a lot of fun. And you meet terrific people. These cars are just a tool to build relationships with people.”
