Adore store brings fashion to Troy area
TROY — Fashion has always been an important aspect in Courtney Killian’s life.
“When I was little, I always said I was going to be a fashion designer,” said Killian.
Born and raised in Troy, Killian’s love for clothing and style grew into two separate businesses in the downtown area.
Killian has owned her salon, Charisma, for six years now and enjoys styling hair on the days she isn’t in her newest venture.
In the salon, Killian had clothes and other boutique items for sale that clients could buy while getting their hair done.
“People have always been drawn to what I wear, so I figured I should start selling and people started liking it and it kind of all went from there,” she said.
Oftentimes, she would post what she had online for friends and family to look at and pick up for purchase. Doing this became so popular, that she decided she needed a new space for this new endeavor alone.
“I ended up doing more online. For a full year, I was doing a lot of online selling so I sort of brought it to here. We bought this building and decided to make it into its own store,” she said.
The clothing boutique is called Adore, which is located right above her salon, at 825 Canton street in Troy.
There, customers will find hand-picked styles by Killian which will fit women and children.
It did start out with some camo-styled clothing.
“Originally, this started out as Charisma’s Camo and Clothing on Facebook. I just had a lot of camo fashion, which became a thing and I sold a lot of camo-inspired pieces,” she said.
Killian says her favorite to wear though, is cheetah print.
“I have a lot of cheetah print, which is what I always wear,” she laughs. “A lot of people like it.”
For Killian, her favorite aspect of the job is helping people find clothes they love.
“I just love seeing people come in, especially the joy they have had about having something like this in our small town,” said Killian. “Everyone has loved it and said how nice it is which makes it worth it. I love helping them pick out outfits that make them feel good about themselves.”
When asked what her favorite pieces are that she hand-picked, Killian said “Anything with a little distressing, mixing prints, anything different you don’t see everywhere else but then I also love our soft basic items for anyone with simpler taste, or we can make outfits with my printier tops and mix it with like a plain sweater.”
A lot of hard work went into renovating the second floor of the building to make it stylish and homey for customers while they shop, with all credit going to Killian’s husband, Dylan and doing the changes himself.
