Adopt A Community!

by Corrin Binford - July 1, 2014

Today on Wellsboro Home Page we have an opportunity for the people of Tioga County to make a difference in the world.

Tioga County may not be a huge area geographically and with approximately 43,000 residents, we certainly do not have a gigantic population. However, the people of our community excel in the areas of kindness, compassion and love. For example, thousands of dollars have been raised from the people of Tioga County for Ashley Johns and her family after Ashley’s devastating auto accident. When families have lost their home to fire, the people of Tioga County have stepped up to help. We have reached out to feed those in need, helped to rescue orphans, sent Goodies for our Troops and even have several organizations working to save and care for needy animals. The neighbors here have big hearts and truly care about others.

Today, Wellsboro Home Page would like to present an opportunity for our viewers to reach out to people in another part of the world through a project called Community to Community. Community to community is businesses, organizations, churches and individuals adopting one of the communities in Nicaragua. This project focuses on helping children get an education, acquire clean water, develop competent medical teams, set up a mobile library system and so much more. These are things that we take for granted but for the people in Nicaragua these are life changing and sustaining gifts.

Strohecker Vision Care, area dental offices, the Ogdensburg church as well as many others that surround our community have already sent volunteers, sponsored children and are continuously seeding money into this program.

Glen and Jana Kauffman are the founders of New Day Ministries and this program. They have a big heart for the people of Nicaragua and are calling the residents of Tioga County to action. Anyone who would like to get involved or donate may contact them at newdayministrynicaragua.org.
