Accordions Attack! School Chemistry Lab Overrun With Music!
WELLSBORO — Tiffany Getty has collected and repaired over 20 accordions for use in her classroom at Wellsboro High School. This accordion adventure began when she received an accordion from her mother, and through some practice, she’s gotten quite good at it. Through all this, she learned how to fix and repair accordions.
She put an ad on Facebook Marketplace asking for any old/unused accordions to be donated to her and the school. Eventually she brought her accordions and her knowledge to her classroom and introduced them to her students. After a casual start, Mrs. Getty began to see many students coming to her classroom to learn and listen to the accordion.
A few of these students are Noah Vickery, Wyatt Roth and Dallas Schultz. Noah started learning the accordion after hearing Mrs. Getty’s playing, and that she had extra accordions for students. Wyatt’s story started after a quick break on a random day, where Mrs. Getty had him don an accordion, and he’s been playing since. Dallas received his own accordion from his grandfather, and had it fixed by Mrs. Getty.
All the boys agree that the best thing about the accordion is its uniqueness in sound and how rare they are.
