A Tioga County October Weekend!

by Sara Vogt - October 8, 2015

Growing up in Tioga County, I always enjoyed the varying colors of fall. Many years later, autumn is still one of my favorite seasons. Just today while driving around with my family I was saying, “Oh, look at the yellows, reds, and oranges!” But leaf peeping isn’t the only seasonal activity our current visitors can enjoy. If you’re staying with us during October, be sure to check out some of the following attractions.

The Mansfield University Orchestra performs its Prism Concert on October 9, 2015 at 7:30 PM in Steadman Theatre. The concert shows off the diverse talent of Mansfield’s music department including orchestra, percussion, choral, chamber, and brass. The many performances occur in succession without the interruption of applause and the performers vary in location. Mansfield University Orchestra provides a moving and inspiring concert, one not to miss. Tickets prices are: $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for students, and Free for MU Students.

Tickets can be reserved via phone through the music office at (570) 662-4710, with pick up at the ticket booth the night of the concert. Alternatively, they can also be purchased at the door before the performance. To purchase tickets online, please click on the following link: Purchase Tickets Online

On Saturday the 10th of October, the Fifth Season Women’s Boutique invites you to the annual Brimming with Style Hat Show and Champagne Luncheon. Christine Moore of Christine A. Moore Millinery of New York is the featured speaker, sharing about her hat designing process and the different materials used to create their hats. Christine’s hats are worn by many local women, as well as those in the fashion and entertainment fields.

The luncheon will be held from 12:00pm to 2:00pm, with an atmosphere of relaxed fun, great food, colorful fashions, and (of course) beautiful hats. Invite your friend, mom, sister, sister-in-law, daughter, niece, neighbor, aunt, or cousin to come and enjoy this ladies’ time together. There will be plenty of giveaways, as well as an opportunity to win one of Christine’s handmade hats! (Christine’s website: http://www.camhats.com/)

The same Saturday evening at 7:30pm, Wellsboro Home Page is proud to sponsor the first concert for the Wellsboro Community Concert Association concert series. The concert will be held at the Deane Center in Wellsboro and feature the Dali Quartet. With an artist’s grace and a Caribbean soul, the Dali Quartet is today’s freshest voice in classical and Latin American music. Anchored in both Venezuela’s El Sistema and in American classical conservatory traditions, this quartet combines the best of both worlds.

The quartet’s performances of traditional string quartet and Latin American repertoire create a concert experience that takes listeners on an eclectic journey of rhythm and sound. In the spirit of the famed Spanish artist Salvador Dali, the Dali Quartet embraces imagination and excellence as central to its art form.

The ensemble is comprised of award-winning solo and chamber artists, who have appeared at Carnegie Hall, toured widely in Europe and Asia, collaborated with some of the finest composers of our time, and recorded for Dorian, Centaur, and Naxos. Based in Philadelphia, the quartet has brought the Latin-Classical connection to television, festivals, as well as educational and presenting organizations throughout Canada, the United States, and South America. You can get a preview of the group’s sound on their website, Dali Quartet (http://www.daliquartet.com/)

If the Dali Quartet piques your interest, the subscription price for an adult to attend all six shows in the 2015-16 concert season is $60. That translates to $10 per show for those who attend all six! The price at the door for adults is $20 per show, $5 for students with student ID cards, and free for children 12 and under accompanied by a paying adult. Information and subscription forms are available by visiting www.wellsborocca.org, stopping in at the Deane Center at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro or by calling (570) 724-6220.
