2x Events, 2x the Fun!

by Sara Vogt - April 10, 2015

This Saturday, two area schools – The Wellsboro Montessori Children’s Center and The Trinity Lutheran School – are inviting the community to come and join them in celebrating their mission of teaching children. Emilee Andrews, a Mansfield University student, is the event co-ordinator of The Wellsboro Montessori Children’s Center’s First Annual Children’s Film Festival. This family-oriented event is free of charge. The event will feature a variety of Pixar short films which include famous characters from Toy Story, Cars, Ratatouille, and other Pixar movies. The films range in length from five to 10 minutes. It will be held at the Deane Center from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be prize giveaways and complimentary refreshments donated by different business sponsors in our area. The WMCC is very excited to present this free, family-friendly event to the community while working alongside of the Deane Center. “The WMCC is a community based organization,” said Kevin Connelly, Executive Director of the Deane Center, “and the Deane Center wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for organizations like them. We’re happy to partner with the WMCC for this special event.”

“The Wellsboro Montessori Children’s Center (WMCC) is a nonprofit, non-sectarian preschool and daycare that provides a loving and stimulating environment where children can develop to their full potential socially, emotionally, intellectually, and creatively. They seek to provide enriching and nurturing experiences which nourish the young child’s natural joy of learning and enhance the development of self-awareness and a positive self-image.” (wellsboromontessorischool.com) For further information about the event, like their Facebook page or contact Emilee Andrews at (607) 215-2509 or andrewsej11@mounties.mansfield.edu.

Trinity Lutheran School is holding their annual auction this Saturday, April 11. The doors open at 4:30 PM to preview the items and to start the bidding on the silent auction. The live auction with auctioneer Tim Kaltenbach will begin at 6:30 PM. Janice Hughes, one of the teachers at the school, came into the studio to tell us the details.

For over 20 years the auction has helped to defray the costs of operating the school. This has also enabled them to provide a quality Christian education to over 125 students in preschool through sixth grade at a reasonable price for all of the families.

Many local businesses and larger companies have donated items to be auctioned. In addition to the lamps, decorations, quilts, etc there will be over 100 gift certificates and many class projects will also contribute to the collection of items to be auctioned.

This is a fun event of friendly competition in securing the items for auction and if you work up an appetite there will be refreshments available.
“Every year we have a ‘Paddles Up’ project.” says Hughes. “This year ‘Paddles Up’ will go towards playground improvements. Anyone can raise their ‘paddle’ and donate to this cause.”

This auction is another way to support the families and children in our community!
