2021-2022 Troy Lions Club President Jessica Sentyz Farewell

2021-2022 Troy Lions Club President Jessica Sentyz Farewell

by Jessica Sentyz - August 12, 2022

The following is a farewell statement from Lion Jessica Sentyz:

The Troy Lions 2021-2022 fiscal year really flew by and is now behind us! I am very grateful to the Troy community, the Troy Lions members, and especially the board members for a wonderful year serving them as president. This is the 83rd year of service by Troy Lions serving the community (stay tuned for special celebrations in a couple years for our 85th). I was really nervous about being president, it’s not really a position I ever pictured myself in. However, thanks to a wonderful secretary (Robyn), board members, and knowledgeable members – it really was not bad at all. It was a fun and successful year!

Of course this year we did all of our “usual” projects and services, but we also completed a couple special projects as well. We had Bingo at the Troy Fair, our annual Raffle, the annual Golf Tournament, Adopt a Highway cleanup, Alparon Park walkway cleanup (numerous times), and the big Christmas Basket program. I love being involved in the Christmas Basket program and watching it get bigger and more successful every year. This year we raised over $15k in donations, served 441 kids and 449 adults, delivering 220 baskets. Another thing we do every year is help to provide scholarships to our high school seniors – providing opportunities for our local Leo Club members moving onto higher education. Thank you to everyone who takes charge and makes all these events successful!

In addition to our annual community services and fundraising events, we also completed two beautiful projects in downtown Troy. The first was the addition of beautiful lamp posts to the walkway between downtown Troy and Alparon Park. This took a lot of volunteer hours of research and physical labor so we thank everyone who helped that happen. We also removed old, ordered and installed lovely new benches out front of Troy Boro hall. They are heavy, sturdy metal that will last for years to come. Please look back at our Facebook posts and pictures about these projects if you missed them! Another exciting venture we started, in partnership with the Troy Rotary Club and Troy Presbyterian Church, is monthly Community Dinners. This has been a fun opportunity to serve our community and interact with other service organizations.

Finally, we welcomed 4 new members this year, still making us the 2nd largest Lions Club in our Lions “District” of Pennsylvania. We have over 70 members! Additionally, I became the first Troy Lions President to ever have a baby while serving my term, so that made for an extra exciting time- thanks again to everyone who has helped me and guided me though this busy year and time! Finally – a huge welcome to our 2022-2023 President Alfredo Torres – I know we have another exceptional year ahead of us!
