WINTERFEST this weekend!

Enjoy a day of free family fun at Hills Creek State Park!

by Tim Morey - January 15, 2016

Enjoy a day of free family fun at Hills Creek State Park Saturday January 16, 2016 from 10am to 3pm.

Kids are sure to line the sledding hill early. We provide several snow tubes, but youngsters should bring their sleds as well. The youngest family members will enjoy kids crafts and the young-at-heart will enjoy geocaching. We’ll have GPS units to borrow or you can download the geocaching app on your smartphone to enjoy this high-tech treasure hunt.

Due to limited ice, we will not be offering skating this year or ice fishing, but will have an ice fishing display on land. Stop by a display on ice safety and be sure your kids know about how to be safe around ice.

Our local mountain man will be back with his 1700’s pioneer camp setup. Get warmed up by the fire or head out on a guided hike. Learn a bit at interpretive programs including wildlife forensics, owls of PA, and winter bird feeding. If the snow holds out into the afternoon, we’ll offer cross country skiing as a mini-clinic to try that out if you haven’t before.

All this and we will even provide hot chocolate and hot dogs – free until they’re gone!

We have a couple inches of snow and are hoping for a little more into Saturday. Even with limited snow, Winterfest is still a go!
