Winter Celebration Teaser!

Mark your calendars to enjoy Wellsboro's winter wonderland!

by Sara Vogt - February 4, 2015

Today our Outdoor Adventures correspondent Tim Morey talks about the upcoming Winter Outing events and encourages us to go outside! A couple of the events are offered this Sunday, February 8 – with one at the Ives Run Recreation Area Stephenhouse Shelter, from 1PM-3PM. It is a moderately strenuous snowshoe hike on the Stephenhouse Trail, which winds through hardwood forest and along the scenic Stephenhouse Run for 1.25 miles. This hike starts off going uphill and involves a stream crossing. Dress in layers. Limited snowshoes will be available.

The second event this Sunday is being offered at the Decker Pool at Mansfield University from 5:30PM – 8:30 PM. Come try kayaking in the warm pool! All ages welcome. Kayaks, paddles and related equipment will be provided at no charge by the MU Kayak Club. A swimsuit and a towel are all that’s needed. Non-swimmers welcome! Kids must be accompanied by a responsible adult. For more information on the winter outings in the area you can go to www.stepoutdoors.org.

We also spoke with Marsha Chesko, the new President of the Chamber of Commerce here in Wellsboro about the new event happening this winter. The Wellsboro Winter Celebration will take place for the first time this year on Saturday, February 28 through Sunday, March 1.

Some of the outdoor activites will be Cross Country Skiing, Snowshoeing, Sledding, Ice & Chain Saw Carving, Winter Games & Activities. There will also be a craft show and chili cook-off!

All of the events for this weekend are free, such as the “Frozen” Sing-a-long at the Deane Center Coolidge Theatre – just call the Fifth Season to reserve your seat at (570)-724-6910. Later that evening – also at the Deane Center Coolidge Theatre – the Mansfield Jazz Ensemble will be performing at 7:30PM. For more information about all of the activities for the weekend, call the Chamber Office at (570)-724-1926.
