Who Will Be Queen?

by Morgan Koziar, Lauren Gooch - June 18, 2015

Every year, thousands of people—both tourists and locals—gather in the small town of Wellsboro to celebrate the annual Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival. This community event includes many vendors selling goods of all sorts, ranging from furniture to home décor to jewelry. And let’s not forget the street lined with delicious food vendors!

This weekend is packed with a fun assortment of festivities appealing to any age. On Friday, the Juried Arts & Crafts Fair vendors will open shop on the Green at 10 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. The Queen’s preview will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday at the Deane Center. Saturday kicks off at 9 a.m. with the 10k Footrace & 2-mile Fun Run beginning at Packer Park. The Juried Arts & Crafts Fair will also be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Also on Saturday, the excitement continues with the famous two-hour Laurel Festival Parade, beginning at 2 p.m. This parade highlights each of the thirty-two candidates representing their communities in the Pennsylvania State Laurel Queen Pageant. The crowning of the new Pennsylvania State Laurel Queen, one of the main events of the weekend, will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Coolidge Theatre in the Deane Center.

Wellsboro Home Page had the opportunity to speak with a few of the previous Queens of Tioga County including: Katey McCloskey representing North Penn-Mansfield, Paige Carr representing Wellsboro, and Delaney Smith representing Cowanesque Valley. Tickets for the coronation ceremony are available at the Wellsboro Area Chamber of Commerce, 114 Main Street, Wellsboro (570) 724-1926.

We’ll see you this weekend at the 74th-annual Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival!
