What’s Happening at Laurel Festival?
This week’s Chamber’s Highlights focuses on the 75th Annual State Laurel Festival, held June 11-19. Begun as a weekend event in 1938 by Larry Woodin, the festival has grown into a weeklong celebration that kicks off the summer. Each night of the 2016 Laurel Festival, there are a free concerts open to the public. The next performance will be Wellsboro Town Band on Wednesday, June 15, at 7:00pm on the Green.
Friday, June 17, the Queen Preview will take place on the outdoor Deane Center Stage at 12:0pm and 5:00pm, including a performance by Zydeco Trail Riders. Saturday, June 18, at 9:00am the 10k Footrace and the 2-mile Fun Run start at Packer Park. Later that afternoon, at 2:00pm, the Laurel Festival Parade will make its way down Wellsboro Main Street with many creative floats by various nonprofit organizations. Saturday will conclude with the Queen’s Coronation at 6:30pm in the Deane Center. Throughout the weekend, over 110 artisans plan to display their pieces at the Arts and Crafts Fair, on Friday 10:00am-8:00pm, and on Saturday 9:00am-7:00pm.
Sunday, June 19, at 10:30am the area churches will hold a Union Church Service on the Green. The final concert of the week will be performed by Jim Gaudet and the Railroad Boys at 2:00pm in the Deane Center.
