Wellsboro Highlights: 11/27/17 – 12/01/17

by Home Page Staff - December 2-3, 2017

It’s time once again to take a look at what happened the past week. The Weekly Highlights are a great way to catch up, but don’t forget that you can always watch the full stories from either our front page or the archives section.

Back to Basics: Luther’s Legacy
Today’s feature explores the story behind the Protestant Reformation – an event widely considered one of the most influential turning points in history.

In fact, historian Philip Schaff had this to say about it:
“The Reformation of the sixteenth century is, next to the introduction of Christianity, the greatest event in history. It marks the end of the Middle Ages and the beginning of modern times. Starting from religion, it gave, directly or indirectly, a mighty impulse to every forward movement, and made Protestantism the chief propelling force in the history of modern civilization.”

Movin’ Together – Journal of Thanks 2017
Dr. Nicole Mayo explained that writing seems to help our efforts and intentions to be lasting, rather than fleeting. “Research has shown to write a few days a week, notating five things that you are thankful for, especially the people in your life. Making the journal more personal, not a rote habit, but a transmission of the heart.” Dr. Mayo also cited the importance of speaking gratefulness out loud, with the understanding that appreciative words and conversations orient our mindset in a thankful direction. As we speak and think positively, our thought life becomes more positive!

A Hamilton-Gibson Christmas
Hamilton-Gibson is providing so many things that the whole family can enjoy! A brand new group they have is a juggling troop. They opened it to anyone who wanted to juggle on the streets; and even though it’s still in the early stages, they’re all having great fun. They have concerts with the children and youth choirs, they celebrate on the street with all the Fezziwigs, they have marvelous strolls through Main Street, and of course, they are putting on their famous, “A Christmas Carol” that everyone looks forward to every year. And this is just the beginning!

WAHS invites community to Christmas Concert!
This year, Wellsboro Area High School welcomed Daniel Sensenig as their brand new music teacher. Mr. Sensenig started teaching because he knew he wanted to help people. School and music came naturally to him; so from early on, he knew he wanted to teach. He feels blessed that the kids and the community has been so warm and welcoming.

The Christmas Chorus Concert will be held on December 6th, at 7:00 PM. It is taking place at the Wellsboro High School Auditorium. Admission is free.
