Wellsboro Highlights: 11/06/17 – 11/10/17

by Home Page Staff - November 11-12, 2017

It’s time once again to take a look at what happened the past week. The Weekly Highlights are a great way to catch up, but don’t forget that you can always watch the full stories from either our front page or the archives section.

Hornets fall short against Line Mountain, 14-13
A week after the Hornets capped an undefeated regular season, the Wellsboro Football team’s season came to an end in a 14-13 heartbreaking loss to Line Mountain on Friday, November 3 in the first round of the District IV Class AA playoffs.

“These seniors left a legacy behind that is going to be hard to replicate,” continued Hildebrand. “Three NTL titles and a District title to their names in four years. The program though and what these seniors have done for it, this is a very special group and I wish them all the best and I think they’re going to have some very bright futures and a lot of colleges are going to get some very special football players. I just wish it didn’t have to end here tonight like it did.”

The loss ends the Hornets’ season at 10-1 (10-0 NTL Large School Division).

UPMC Susquehanna – Ready to Respond
Dr. Lee Williams, a marriage and family therapist and professor at the University of San Diego, developed a list of seven crucial components that could help alleviate depression. These seven components, also known as the seven p’s, not only provide a guide for how to reduce depression, but for how to live a balanced life. These seven p’s give us additional accountability for cultivating relationships, implementing our own self-care, and being a positive influence to ourselves, then others.

The Seven P’s of a Fulfilling Life
On a hot summer’s day, the Tioga County Fair’s bleachers are packed with fans cheering on their favorite rider in its signature rodeo event. Suddenly, a series of loud explosions rips through the bleachers, and as the smoke begins to clear, dozens of spectators lay injured in the aftermath of a suspected bombing. The ambulance on scene quickly springs into action, notifying 911 of its need for multiple EMS, fire and police crews. What happens next? This disaster scenario sets the scene for Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital’s latest emergency drill.

Ag Happenings – Brody Coolidge
Brody Coolidge’s FFA journey all started back during his freshmen year at Wellsboro High School. He simply needed a class to fill his schedule, so he chose Intro to Ag. Brody had grown up in 4-H and working at his grandparent’s farm, so he thought “why not?”

Within the class, he was exposed to all the great and endless opportunities that FFA would provide for him. He became passionate for FFA after his first chapter banquet in April of his freshmen year. Brody’s FFA chapter advisor, Mrs. Melanie Berndtson, has been his biggest influence to guide him throughout his FFA journey. She has helped him and his team win their Forestry CDE at the state level and go on to compete at the national level. She also has spent countless hours with Brody, from preparing speeches to helping him with applications. That was the start of Brody’s FFA journey. Now, he is a state officer for Pennsylvania.
