Laurel Festival – They’re “Almost World Famous!”
Although Laurel Festival activities have already begun, this past Wednesday was The “Almost World Famous” Wellsboro Town Band’s first seasonal concert on the Wellsboro Green. This concert marked the first, of a four concert series over the summer, with the last three performances happening every other Wednesday (June 28th, July 12th, and July 26th). They opened up with the National Anthem, followed by The Pledge of Allegiance. From there, symphonic melodies filled the air with some familiar tunes, like music from Pirates of the Caribbean. Laurel Festival – Royal Interviews!
Each June, as the garlands of mountain laurel bloom throughout our woodlands, Wellsboro celebrates with a variety of special events, not the least of which is the annual crowning of the Pennsylvania State Laurel Queen. The tradition of crowning a queen goes back to 1938 and continues to this day with 28 young women who represent their schools and communities in the event that honors the gifts and talents of each, and encourages them to impact the future.
