Welcome to Live from the Hive!
It’s our first edition of “Live From The Hive” for the 2018 – 2019 school year. The Home Page channel, “Live From The Hive” with Dr. Brenda Freeman, (Superintendent of the Wellsboro Area School District) can be found in the Special Features section on our left navigation bar.
On today’s broadcast, Home Page correspondent Johanna Vogt visits with Dr. Freeman to find out what’s been buzzing around the Wellsboro Area School District over the summer. During the summer months it’s a time for making plans for the upcoming school year. The administration has not only been working to get the school ready for the new year, but they have also been working on curriculum changes, as well as personnel changes.
Regarding the personnel changes, Dr. Freeman believes that it’s healthy for their school principals to change from time to time so that they are in tune with the entire educational system.
Dr. Freeman told Home Page that they are also looking at a new math series that will be implemented this school year from Kindergarten to 8th grade. The administration is also looking at vocational opportunities, with pre-apprenticeships and partnerships in our community. Concurrently, they are evaluating upper-level courses that will give students additional enrichment opportunities.
During the second half of today’s broadcast, Dr. Freeman introduces us to Emily Ostrom Graham, the new Wellsboro Area High School Principal. Mrs. Ostrom Graham said that there would be many new things happening within the curriculum this year, including the launch of an aviation curriculum.
Dr. Freeman stated that the administration is continuously looking for new ways to provide opportunities, as well as the best education possible for Wellsboro Area High School students. She said that they look at each student as a “Tioga County student.” Partnering with the neighboring school districts to help students advance is something that the administration looks forward to exploring even more in the future.
Take a few moments to watch this informative broadcast from Dr. Brenda Freeman and Principal Emily Ostrom Graham. Also, be sure to check back soon for a new feature, The Buzz, with Principal Ostrom Graham.
