SOMETHING WONDERFUL HAS SPROUTED

This’s feature is about the beautiful gardens around Wellsboro and the woman who encourages others to get involved. As a master gardener, Bonnie loves to teach the skills she has learned through her certification. Under the direction of Pete Harris of Parks and Recreation, she has started what we now know as the Wellsboro Garden Club.

Many of the gardens we enjoy in Wellsboro are cared for by the Wellsboro Garden Club – such as The Green – Mary Wells Statue – and Packer Park to name a few. All of the work done on these gardens is done through the work of these volunteers.

If you would like to join in on the fun – please check out the Wellsboro Garden Club Facebook page or contact Parks and Recreation. If you need advice on gardening, just call the Cooperative Extension Office at 570-724-9120.

WHAT’S UP WITH FIBER?

Friday’s feature tackles a subject that is often times confusing: fiber. We have all heard that fiber is an important part of our diet, but what is it?How much fiber do we need? Registered Dietician Jen Davis explains the role soluble fiber plays in our diet. Watch the feature above to learn more!

There is a great tool on choosemyplate.gov that can help you figure out how much fiber is in a serving of a particular food. It is called Food-A-Pedia. Type in the food you want to look up, then click the nutrient info tab for a variety of nutritional information, including fiber per serving.

Remember, build your health – one change at a time.
