The Weekly Highlights 02/24/14 – 02/28/14

by Home Page Staff - March 1, 2014

DISTRICT PLAYOFF RECAP!

It’s playoff time, and with that comes the ever present reality that if you don’t win now, your season is over. It’s time to put everything that you’ve worked so hard for throughout the season on the line.

The Mansfield Lady Tigers took on the East Juniata Lady Tigers in their first playoff game of the season. Mansfield started slow and seemed to have a hard time getting their offense in a good rhythm.

Friday night featured men’s basketball action with Mansfield hosting North Penn. This was an emotional game for many North Penn fans as they faced the prospect that this could be the last Panther basketball game to ever be played. It was a tight game throughout with neither team giving an inch.

The Wellsboro Hornets traveled to Lewisburg to face the top ranked Green Dragons. The was close early but the Hornets were overwhelmed with Lewisburg’s three point shooting.

THE WEEKLY BRIEFING – 5 STEP PULL-OVER

Tuesday’s feature explained the proper protocols that should be followed during a traffic stop by law enforcement officials. Chief Jim Bodine of the Wellsboro Police Department told us what we should do when we get pulled over.

The first thing we need to do is pull to the right side of the roadway when it’s safe to do so. This is a common misconception among motorists. Many think you have to pull over right away but the officer performing the traffic stop would rather you take your time and find a safe area where both you and the officer will be out of danger.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT MU BASKETBALL

Home Page had the opportunity to get an inside look at the Mansfield University Men’s Basketball program. Mansfield University Correspondent Ryan Campbell spoke with star forward Joe Bell and asked him about some of his goals and mindsets. Bell had a great sophomore season last year and another great campaign during his junior year.

THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER

Wellsboro Home Page had the opportunity to get a sneak peek of Cowanesque Valley High School’s spring drama, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The energy was felt all throughout the cast and crew during first night of dress rehearsals. Karin Knaus and David Wert teamed up to co-direct this production. Forty-two cast members will bring this literary classic to the stage. With such strong connections to Mark Twain, here in the Twin Tiers, Knaus found it an easy choice of productions to share. You won’t want to miss the talent these students exude!

Show times for Tom Sawyer are Friday February 28 at 7:00, Saturday March 1 at 7:00, and Sunday March 2 at 2:00. Tickets are just $7 for adults, and $3 for students.
