THE NTL SHOWDOWNS!

The Wellsboro Hornets traveled to Mansfield where they faced the Tigers in the opening round of the NTL playoffs Friday night. The game was originally scheduled for Thursday but pushed back to Friday due to the winter storm.

Neither team seemed affected by the extra day off and looked fresh and ready to play. The Hornets took an early 13-7 lead after the first quarter. The Hornets executed their offense well and took advantage of a lot of missed shots by the Tigers and converted them into transition baskets. The Tigers struggled all night long trying to get their offense in gear but never were able to do so.

The Hornets defeated the Tigers 78-48 and advanced to the NTL championship.

The Hornets faced the Towanda Black Knights Saturday at Mansfield University. This was the third time the two teams faced each other with the Black Knights defeating the Hornets in the past two match-ups.

Both teams came out of the gate strong trading baskets and not giving an inch. Towanda started out the first quarter shooting great from three-point land. Noah Wheeler led that charge with 9 points in the first quarter. All of them being three-pointers. Towanda led 16-13 after the first quarter. Wellsboro would then go on to outscore the Black Knights 12-7 in the second quarter. In the third quarter the hornets came out playing excellent offense attacking the rim and using great execution to pull away from the Black Knights. Towanda settled for tough contested jump shots in the fourth quarter and was never able to claw back in it. Wellsboro beat Towanda by a final score of 56-47.

THE WEEKLY BRIEFING – GOT DRUGS?

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has scheduled another National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day which will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:.00 p.m. The DEA will coordinate a collaborative effort with state and local law enforcement agencies focused on removing potentially dangerous controlled substances from our nation’s medicine cabinets. This is a great opportunity for those who missed the previous events, or who have subsequently accumulated unwanted, unused prescription drugs, to safely dispose of those medications to law enforcement officers for destruction. The program provides an opportunity for law enforcement, prevention, treatment, and the business community to collaborate and establish a safe collection site for all Americans, regardless of where they reside.

REAL CARS, REAL ROADS, REAL FAST!

The winter rally was held on Saturday, Feb. 15. A total of seven participants competed in this unique racing event. Rallying is a form of auto racing that takes place on public or private roads with modified or specially built road-legal cars. This racing is distinguished by its point-to-point format in which participants and their co-drivers drive between set control points called special stages. Each driver leaves the starting point of each stage at set intervals, and their completion time – from start to finish – for that stage is recorded. The race is won by the driver with the shortest total completion time of all the stages.

BREAKING NEWS – SUSQUEHANNA HEALTH AFFILIATES WITH CLEVELAND CLINIC

Susquehanna Health today announced an affiliation with Cleveland Clinic’s Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart and Vascular Institute. The affiliation combines the academic, clinical and research components of Cleveland Clinic with the regional leader in cardiac services in northcentral Pennsylvania.

The Tioga County Department of Emergency Services is a department within county government that administers several different programs that work together to enhance the safety and well-being of residents and visitors to Tioga County . The Department includes the programs of Emergency Management Agency and Homeland Security, 911 Communications Center, Hazardous Material Planning & Response, Emergency Medical Services, and Fire and Rescue Training. The Department also includes the West Nile Virus Surveillance program.
