Weekly Highlights – 11/09/15 – 11/13/15

by Home Page Staff - November 14-15, 2015

It’s time once again to take a look at what happened the past week. The Weekly Highlights are a great way to catch up, but don’t forget that you can always watch the full stories from either our front page or the archives section.
________

HORNETS EDGE NORTH PENN IN DOUBLE OT

Four quarters wasn’t enough to determine a winner in the annual Morton F. Jones Trophy Game between rivals Wellsboro and North Penn on Friday, November 6.
“Coming off last week’s loss to Towanda the guys knew they let themselves down and we just weren’t ready mentally. I just take as much blame for that. We had a great week of practice coming into tonight, we didn’t really have to get the kids fired up because the rivalry does that,” Hildebrand said. “This win is a spring board and we needed it tonight as we go forward into districts next week and we’re focused on getting the program’s first post-season win.”
Now the Hornets (8-2, 3-2 NTL Division 1) turn their attention to the first round of District IV playoffs. The Hornets will host Muncy, who they defeated 33-12 back in week two of the regular season, at Mansfield University.

VETERANS DAY CEREMONY ON THE GREEN

On this day we pause to give thanks to the men and women who have served in the armed forces. We owe these men and women a debt that we can never repay. Thank you Veterans for the sacrifices you have made. We are forever grateful.

DECORATING DECODED – THANKSGIVING PREP

Frequently, many of us eat dinner in front of the television or quickly grab a bite to eat due to hectic schedules. It seems to be a rare occasion that the whole family gets to gather around the table and enjoys each other’s company over a good meal. So that is why I thought with the holiday season quickly approaching, it would be a good idea to give a refresher on how to set a nice table and show you some fun napkin folding techniques. Watch the video for all the how to’s and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

LADY HORNETS FALL TO HOLY REDEEMER

The Wellsboro Volleyball team’s season came to an end at the hands of Holy Redeemer on Tuesday, November 10 at North Pocono High School in the first round of PIAA playoffs.
Senior Hannah Wagaman led the team with 12 digs, senior Haley Zuchowski had 9, and senior Darci Warriner pitched in 8. Warriner and junior Kirsten Florio each had three kills, and senior Mikayla Feil added two. Junior Morgan Florio and senior Maddy Kyle each had three assists and sophomore Brianne Keane pitched in one.

The loss ends the District IV Class AA champions’ season at 17-3 (9-2 NTL Division 1).

DOWN WINDING ROADS

“Each generation has to step up…and appreciate what we have.” So says Nancy McCaughey, artist and contributor to the Gmeiner exhibit titled “Down Winding Roads,” which will be available for the public’s enjoyment November 1st – 29th. The three year project has indeed taken these local photographers down many roads in Tioga to, as Mia Anderson says, “photographically document this incredible county…travel[ing] the back roads through every season, at dawn and dusk, and occasionally under the stars.”
