HORNETS CHALLENGE RAMS IN WYALUSING

It was parents night in Wyalusing and Mom and Dad were in for a special treat as their Rams would go on to beat the favored Wellsboro Hornets 38 to 28.
The Rams came into this game with new Head Coach, Frank Kinney, at the helm and a 4 and 3 record. Mr. Kinney would bring with him a few new looks and a very fired-up Rams team. The Hornets were 6 and 1 and, while having a great season, were banged up a little from previous battles. Quarterback Michael Pietropola has been nursing a shoulder/collarbone injury, and back up Quarterback Brandon Lamphier is still recovering from a concussion he sustained in last week’s game against the Bloomsburg Panthers.

BEAR INVADER AT MORRIS FISH NURSERY

Things go south for a local bear who was charged with “violating a ‘NO FISHING’ zone” at the Morris Fish Nursery. We are not sure if the bear was unable to read the posting or if he just decided to ignore it. The sign was clearly posted on a tree next to the fish nursery. (It reads: FISHING PROHIBITED.) Some of the residents in the area insist that the illiteracy rate among local bears is staggering and claim that it was not the bear’s fault. Others argue that this bear knew exactly what he was doing and they are glad he was busted.

All kidding aside, it was truly amazing to watch Officer Mee and his care for the captured bear. The animal was tranquilized and then carefully removed from the trap. The health of the bear was monitored through every step of the procedure. He was measured and thoroughly examined. There were no unusual characteristics or problems discovered, such as mange (a parasitic skin disease). This bear seemed to be very healthy and well fed. He was truly a beautiful animal. Read more…

TURN, TURN, TURN – A TRIBUTE TO PETE SEEGER

Volunteering in Tioga County is alive and well, displayed once again in today’s feature about the Wellsboro Community Concert Association. All of those involved (excluding the sound engineer) are volunteering their time and talents. The Association has been doing these concerts since 1947 – bringing performing arts to rural America. Bruce Smith, the newly appointed President of the Board, shared how the vision continues for their 67th year.

PINK OUT ON FRIDAY!

Janessa Davis spoke with Alexandria Maynsfield and Wellsboro High School teacher Sherry Mohr about this Friday’s Pink Out Football Game.
The pink out game was inspired by Alexandria’s grandmother, who passed away two years ago from breast cancer. The first pink out event was held last year with the band, cheerleaders, and football players all wearing some form of pink. The Connectors Plus program at the high school is selling many pink items this year, including t-shirts, wristbands and stickers to raise awareness for breast cancer and to support the Susan G. Komen Foundation. (Ms. Mansfield and Ms. Mohr are the directors of the Connectors Plus program.) They are also selling 50/50 tickets for various prizes, including a trip to a lake house.

At Friday’s game, two breast cancer survivors will be honored by presenting the game ball to the official. In return, they will both be given pink-painted footballs to commemorate their fight. Alexandria hopes that this program and the “pink out” football games will continue even after she graduates. Come out to support your team and breast cancer awareness. We will see you there!

KEEPING LOVE ALIVE: LOVE YOU / LIKE YOU

Keeping Love Alive is a new feature designed to bring encouragement to all of our marriages today.

On our first broadcast, Steve and Annie Chapman joined us to talk about their new book entitled ‘I Love You and I Like You.’ Their inspiration for this book is simply the desire to support couples in married life and give us all ideas on how to make our relationships better. They encouraged us not to let our love wane, but learn how to keep that love and like alive. One of the subjects they covered today was a special way to spell love: T-I-M-E.

One way of showing love to your spouse is by spending time with them. Ask “what if?” “What if we went for lunch today” or “what if we went for a ride in the country” – think about what would speak love to the other person. The Chapmans also shared how to make your marriage a priority in regard to other relationships and careers.
