Veterans Share Service Stories
The fourth annual Veteran’s tribute was held at the Deane Center on November 13th, sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging. Despite the weather, attendance nearly doubled from last year. Marion Miller played the piano as guests arrived.
Commissioner Roger Bunn opened the event followed by guest speaker, Frank Yungwirth. Frank spoke about why young men and women serve in the armed forces. Each veteran was given the opportunity to share a story of their own.
Carolyn Pendrell, coordinator of the event, encouraged all who attended, to write a message in the blank card provided. The cards will be decorated by the Wellsboro art club, then taken to “goodies for our troops” to be sent to current service men and women. The tables were decorated with pictures colored by first-grades from Charlotte Lappla.
Representatives from Twin Tiers Honor Flight, Tammy and Chip Longabaugh, also shared what they do to coordinate trips for veterans to tour the Washington D.C. war memorials and Arlington National Cemetery at no cost. If you are a veteran and interested in this opportunity you may reach them by phone 800-683-5403, or online at www.twintiershonorflight.org
Thank you to volunteers Lacey Vanderpool, Meryl Amato, and Marion Miller. Employees from the Area Agency on Aging, Carolyn Pendrell, Joey Ackley, Marlea Hoyt, and Kelly Hall. Pastor Mike Olmsted blessed the meal.
All of us at the Home Page Network would like to thank our service men and women for all they do.
