Turnovers Plague Mounties in Loss to Undefeated Army

by Mansfield University - October 12, 2015

MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University defense held Army West Point to under 300 yards in total offense for the first time this season, but the Mountaineers turned the ball over six times in dropping a 42-0 decision in a CSFL game Saturday night as part of LUMA 2015.

The game was closer than the score would indicate with Army West Point scoring three touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Mansfield was plagued by turnovers and sacks by an Army defense that has been unscored upon in the first four games of the season. The Mountaineers lost the ball six times during the evening, four interceptions and two fumbles, with Army West Point returning two turnovers for touchdowns.

The Black Knights recorded 11 sacks of three different Mountaineer quarterbacks.

The Mountaineers defense played well holding Army to below 300 yards in total offense for the first time this season. John Capwell had a team-high nine tackles, eight of them solo with fellow linebacker Spencer Underdown making seven stops. Jonathan Badman and Ricky Robinson each recorded an interception.

Aren Harris rushed 45 yards, the most yards given up to a runner by the Army defense this season. Jakob Woods caught three passes for 35 yards with Joe Bucek also pulling in three passes for 28 yards.

Brady Miller led the Army offense completing 13 of 23 passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns with Marqus Burrell rushing for 70 yards on 19 attempts. Philip Choi recorded five sacks while Curtis Jerzerick had a game-high 11 tackles.

Mansfield travels to Penn for a Friday night game at historic Franklin Field.
