Tigers win home-opener over Sayre
The North Penn-Mansfield Tigers ran past the Sayre Redskins at home on Friday, December 14, in NTL Boys Basketball crossover action for a 69-55 win.
After trailing 11-4 early in the first quarter Mansfield rallied to lead 16-15 as the quarter ended. From that point on it was all Tigers.
Mansfield had back-to-back quarters of 19 points in the second and third, thanks to the hot shooting of Jacob Green and Jayden Andrews, and the inside scoring of Brent Burleigh and Dylan Meyer. The Tigers ran their one-point second quarter lead to a 35-26 lead at halftime and held a 10-point, 54-44 lead after the third quarter.
The Redskins tried to regroup and get back into the game, but Mansfield outscored them 15-11 in the final frame for their third win of the season and second straight after last weekend’s Loyalsock Tournament.
Four Tigers finished in double-figures on the offensive side of the ball in Friday’s game. Andrews led the squad with 16 points, Burleigh finished with 15, Green had 14, and Meyer dropped 11. Sawyer Freeman pitched in with 6 points, Brion Smith had 3, and Logan Tokarz and Alex Stein added 2 points each.
The win improves the Tigers’ record to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the NTL Large School Division.
