by Ed Weaver - May 27, 2016

The North Penn-Mansfield Tigers shocked District IV by knocking off No. 1 seed and defending champion Loyalsock 6-3 at Historic Bowman Field on Thursday, May 26.

The Tigers loaded the bases in the first and took an early lead as Dylan Wesneski was was walked to score Brendan Hill to make it 1-0. Eli Compton made it 2-0 Tigers after Carl Dinger walked. Mansfield’s Levi Adams laid down a bunt to bring home Kipp Hillson to make it 3-0.

Loyalsock made it 3-1 in the bottom of the third as Nate Krizan got on base, stole 2nd, then eventually scored on a Noah Young double.

North Penn-Mansfield added another run in the fifth as Wesneski bunted to bring Hill to make it 4-1. Then in the seventh it was deja vu with Wesneski up to bat again with Hill on third. Wesneski dribbled one to third, but Hill beat the tag at home to make it 5-1 Tigers. North Penn-Mansfield’s final run came later in the inning as Dinger hit a grounder to third, but the throw to home was off the mark allowing Kipp Hillson to score, making it 6-1.

Loyalsock added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh, but J.P. Shaw ended the game with a 3-pitch strikeout to advance to their first district final in over a decade.

Shaw pitched a 4-hit game, Hill went 3-for-4 at the plate with 3 runs scored, and Hillson was 2-for-3 and scored 2 runs. Wesneski had 3 RBI’s on the night and Dinger added 2.
