HOMECOMING WEEKEND SHOWDOWN!

The Troy Trojans stopped by for a visit on Friday night to help Wellsboro celebrate Homecoming. The Hornet’s biggest game of the season ended with Wellsboro’s first regular season defeat since October 2012, when they lost to Towanda.

As the rain came down in Wellsboro, the Trojans would go on to put a total of 17 points on the board and shut out the Hornets for the first time since since October 5th, 2012 when they lost to Athens 40-0.

TRAIL CHALLENGE AT IVES RUN

The beauty of fall is here, and Tioga County is one of the best places in the state to see it! Ives Run Recreation Area is no exception, and offers a variety of trails and resting areas to admire the gorgeous colorful autumn foliage. On today’s feature, Outdoor Adventures correspondent Tim Morey explores one of these trails and presents a family-friendly challenge – coming this Sunday! Tim caught up with Coleen Evert of the Tioga County Partnership for Community Health to learn more about this event.

THE BRIEFING – WATCH THOSE BUSES!

Did you know that the penalties for violating Pennsylvania’s school bus stopping laws are a 60-day driver license suspension, 5 points on your driving record, and a $250.00 fine? First of all, you must stop for a stopped school bus (with red lights flashing and stop arm extended) and remain at least 10 feet from the school bus. You must stop if the bus is at an intersection, whether or not the intersection is marked with a stop sign. You must stop on roadways with painted lines or rigid/grooved dividers.

There are two dates to be aware of this year in the Wellsboro area: first, Saturday October 25th will be the day that the borough of Wellsboro will have their parade and trick-or-treating. Halloween is officially celebrated six days later, on October 31st. This will be another time to be on heightened alert for both children and impaired drivers, who may be on the road. Be very alert. Watch out for the other guy and drive safely.

Come watch the Hamilton-Gibson choirs perform this Sunday, October 12th at 2:30 pm! The concert will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Pearl Street in Wellsboro.

AN APPLE A DAY – DON’T DRINK YOUR CALORIES

October is here! You know what that means – the next three months will include candy in October, pie in November, and cookies in December! According to the American Diabeties association, research has shown that drinking sugary drinks is linked to type 2 diabetes. Diabetes can cause retinopathy, heart disease and diabetic nephropathy. The World Health Organization is dropping its sugar intake recommendations to 6 teaspoons a day. To find the amount of sugar in a product, the most important number is 4. (Why? Find out by watching the video above!)
