The Tyoga Country Club
Since 1923, the picturesque Tyoga Country Club has been delighting golfers both native and non, and they even merited a four-star rating from Golf Digest. Scrupulously managed, Tyoga Country Club provides golfers a beautiful setting. Chris Morral, President of the club, comments, “We’re really lucky to have this type of serene setting and fortunate to be able to play on a course that is not crowded and [is] appreciated by its membership.”
Professional golfer, Matt Sternquist remarks that while the course isn’t too long, it is a challenge. He specifically deems the 18th hole, “a very tough finishing hole…a good way to end your day.” Sternquist also explained that five sets of tees are available, making the course accessible to both the novice and more advanced golfers.
Conveniently located only a few minutes from downtown Wellsboro, the country club partners with the Penn Wells Hotel to offer out-of-town guests an exceptional visiting experience. Penn Wells Hotel and Lodge offer golf packages which include lodging, breakfast, eighteen holes of golf, and a cart. These packages have been popular with visitors since their initial promotion in the 1970s and continue to please canyon country sightseers.
Shawn Bryant, CEO of the Wellsboro Hotel Company aptly summarizes, “[The golf course] reflects the authenticity of Wellsboro. It’s a hardworking town…[a] lot of friendly people. When people come up here I think they feel welcomed like they do at their home course…they feel like it’s a great fit and that’s why they come back every year.”
