Step Outdoors at Packer Park

Make a day downtown at one of the coolest parks around!

by Home Page Staff - July 19, 2016

It’s time again to Step Outdoors with Tim Morey and Pete Herres. Tioga County is rich with beautiful scenery, vibrant small towns and friendly people. You can enjoy all three at our many area parks. Today Tim and Pete present Wellsboro’s much beloved Packer Park.

Packer Park has been popular for years due to its variety of activities and convenient location in downtown Wellsboro. The park is within short walking distance from most lodgings, and it is just behind the Penn Wells Lodge and Sherwood Motel.

Visitors to town and locals alike can enjoy the many facilities the park offers, including the Olympic-sized swimming pool. The pool accommodates both beginners and avid swimmers with a 3-foot section, a 4-foot section and 5-foot section for leisurely swimming. It also has a 50-meter and a 25-yard competitive course as well as a wading pool for toddlers and other small children. Pricing is flexible, as season memberships or daily entry passes are available.

Packer Park features a newly renovated, rubber-floored playground for children aged 10 & under. Amenities include multiple slides, see-saws, sand-digging tools, a swing set, mini-games and more! Positioned next to the playground are a lighted basketball court and tennis courts. All facilities are open for both visitors and locals to utilize on a regular basis.

A picnic pavilion is also available for reservation (or use at any time while not occupied). Plan a day trip with your family and enjoy a day on the town before dropping by the park for an outdoor lunch. The pavilion is perfect for birthday parties, family reunions or other social gatherings.

For more information you can contact the Wellsboro Department of Parks & Recreation at (570) 724-0300 or visit their website at WellsboroRecreation.org.
