Snowday Funday!

by Amiee Jones - January 5, 2018

As the chilly temperatures settle in to stay, we have some great winter activities to look forward to! One of the wonderful aspects of living in Tioga County is being able to experience four distinct seasons. Although the cold temperatures tempt us to stay in the warmth of our homes, there is fun to be had outside during all times of the year!

Oswald Cycle Works has been facilitating group bicycle rides for some time, including their Sunday Funday rides. This time of year is no exception, as Tom Oswald shared that a Sunday ride will take place this weekend, Jan. 7th. Bundle up and join the guys from the cycle shop! This Sunday is just the beginning of a snow biking series! The other dates are: Jan. 14, 21 and 28. The group will meet at 9am at the USGS Northern Appalachian Research Branch at 176 Straight Run Road, just off Route 6 in Asaph.

In addition to this adventurous bicycle outing, a festive family event is taking place at Ives Run. Debbie Calkins, the event coordinator, explained all that this classic Kid’s Winter Event has to offer. There will be snowman building, snow art, winter crafts, and much more, all centered around the fun and beauty of snow. If Sunday arrives without snow on the ground, don’t worry! There will still be plenty of fun to be had, as Debbie has planned activities in the event of no snow, as well. This will be a playful, fun day for the kids, and the event is completely free! (Including hot beverages and supplies.) Taking place at the Stephen house Pavilion at the Ives Run Recreation Area on Hammond Lake, this event will go from 1-3pm.

Two great options for getting outside and enjoying our trademark winter weather! Be sure to bundle up and check out one of these great activities going on this Sunday.
