Showdown set for Wednesday Night!

by Joe Carreon - July 9, 2014

The Wellsboro Boys All-Stars faced off against the Potter-Mckean Boys All-Stars Monday night in one of the final rounds of pool play. Both teams came ready to play but it was Wellsboro who got a good start in this game using strong defense to keep the Potter-Mckean offense at bay. The frustration rose for Potter-Mckean when they couldn’t get anything going. Wellsboro took advantage of the sluggish Potter-Mckean offense with some great offense of their own, jumping to a 4-0 lead using timely hitting, great awareness at the plate, and some excellent base running.

It was a different game after the start of the fifth inning. The momentum of the game shifted in favor of Potter-Mckean after fielding errors from Wellsboro allowed Potter-Mckean to score some runs and get back in the game. Potter-Mckean was very aggressive offensively, with a 2-run shot over the left field fence, securing an 8-6 lead. After the swing of momentum, it was all Potter-Mckean the rest of the way – defeating Wellsboro 8-6.

The showdown is set for Wednesday night. The Wellsboro boys All-Stars will be competing at Potter-Mckean for the district title on Wednesday night at 6p.m. Wellsboro is counting on their fans to make the trip! Finally, the 9-10 boys play on Thursday at 6:00pm in Wellsboro. If they win, they will claim the 9-10 district title. Wellsboro Home Page will be covering both games.
