Rivalry Football Game Pep Rally

by Ed Weaver - November 6, 2015

Since 1962, the Morton F. Jones Memorial Trophy has been awarded to the winner of the football game between North Penn-Mansfield and Wellsboro High School. The Hornets lead the all-time series 34-18, winning the past three years. North Penn last held the trophy from 2009-2011, but the Panthers have gained momentum since starting the season at 2-4, winning their last three games. The Panthers are now 5-4 and ripping things up.

Today, WHP correspondant Sydney Tremper spoke to Wellsboro football athletes and coaches about the Wellsboro-North Penn rivalry, as well as the significance of winning the coveted trophy.

To all participating coaches and players alike: throw out the record books and forget previous games. The battle for Tioga County kicks off tonight from Island Park in Blossburg at 7:00pm. The county looks forward to a good match–play hard and best of luck.
