Rails to Trails All the Way to Wellsboro

by John Vogt - October 18, 2018

Today on The Home Page Network we cover a story that will have lasting benefits for people throughout our region as the vision to bring the Rail Trail all the way into Wellsboro is another step closer to reality.

Plans for the Marsh Creek Greenway Project were presented to the citizens of Tioga County on the evening of October 17, 2018. People had the opportunity to ask questions, express their comments and concerns and, help decide on the best possible plan for the construction of the trail.

Once completed the proposed trail will begin in Wellsboro at the former railroad boarding station and continue north connecting to the Pine Creek Rail Trail. Paul DeAngelo of Skelly and Loy who is the Environmental Consultant on this project opened the meeting and introduced the guest speakers. There were different proposals with mapping on display for citizens to review.

During the second half of today’s broadcast, we find out more about the history of this project and what took so long to get things to this point.

Many people are working on this project including retired Tioga County Planner Jim Weaver, Skip Cavanaugh of the Tioga County Trail Authority secretary Marilyn Jones, Wellsboro Borough Manager Scot Boyce, our country commissioners, former 68th district representative Baker, and the railroad, to name just a few. There are many others. The meeting which took place Wednesday evening was the next step toward completion of the project.

Hopefully, if everyone’s happy, this vision to bring the Rail Trail all the way into Wellsboro will be open to area residents and thousands of visitors soon. It’s one more reason to visit our Tioga County, PA.
