Pietropola Signed to IUP

by Home Page Staff - February 4, 2015

Today is National Signing Day for college football, and one of Wellsboro’s very own has made his college commitment official.

After an illustrious 4 year career with the Wellsboro Hornets, Michael Pietropola has committed and signed with IUP (Indiana University of PA). IUP’s offer included a scholarship and an opportunity for Michael to continue playing football at the collegiate level- which has been a life-long goal for him.

While Michael had considered playing at other colleges, IUP naturally seemed to be the best fit – just as it was for his father, Mike, 20 years prior, when he played football for IUP from 1990-1993. As Michael was visiting IUP, he saw his own fathers football photos on the wall. Now Mike’s son will be playing football at his Alma Mater.

When I asked Michael why he felt so sure of IUP he said “when I went there for my visit I fell in love. The coaching staff, the players, the campus, the football facility – they were all just outstanding! I’m looking forward to being a Crimson Hawk – playing football with a great group of guys and being coached by some of the best coaches in the nation.”

It’s true, the coaching staff at IUP is of very high caliber. Michael will be under the instruction of IUP head coach Curt Cignetti, who was previously on the coaching staff for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Other coaches for IUP include a former player for the Carolina Panthers & Pittsburgh Steelers, among others of high esteem.

Michael will be heading off to college and the next phase of his life with the support of his loving family, friends and the entire community. “I will miss all my teammates from Wellsboro the most” said Michael. I think it’s safe to say they will miss you too, Michael – we all will! God bless you…now go and make Wellsboro proud!
