Pastor Pete & The Star-Bearer!

by Sara Vogt - July 31, 2018

On this broadcast, Home Page correspondent Julianna Vogt interviewed Pastor Peter Tremblay about the novel he authored, The Star-Bearer.

Pastor Tremblay, desiring to write a story similar to the fantasies written by J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, began a challenge through NaNoWriMo to write a novel in one month (and in one year of editing). He succeeded in completing the challenge, and The Star-Bearer became a reality. Believing that much of the genre of fantasy had grown dark and foreboding, he set out to write an adventure story filled with hope, love, and community. When Julianna asked him what he wanted to convey in the novel to the readers, he responded, ” I like a story where good wins out in the end.”

In C.S Lewis’, The Chronicles of Narnia, the characters in the story and the readers alike enter through a wardrobe into a secret world filled with wonder and unusual creatures. Instead of a wardrobe, the readers, as well as the characters in The Star-Bearer, enter by going down a staircase and through a tunnel called Fat Man’s Squeeze. At the end of the tunnel is the mysterious world called Lithos. The author was inspired to write about the Native American stairs and tunnel while visiting Rock City Park, outside of Olean, New York.

In the video presentation, Pastor Pete tells Julianna about each of the different characters and the parts they play in the story. He also shared that at the end of the story, they have learned to live and work together despite their differences.

While shopping local Pop’s Culture Shoppe has copies of The Star-Bearer in their store for purchase.
