Marching Band Features John Williams

by Morgan Koziar, Drew Patrick - August 7, 2014

Are you ready for the season of Friday night football games to begin? The roaring crowds, the smell of popcorn all around, and the chilly fall air are loved by many…and let’s not forget the prideful beat of the Wellsboro High School marching band. The band will preform their show before each Home Hornets football game, with the exception of Homecoming – where the band will preform at half time.

To prepare for the performances, the members participate in Band Camp. This year’s band camp takes place this week – August 4th through August 8th. The band is preforming four songs (as opposed to there traditional three) and the theme is music by composer, John Williams. This includes arrangements from Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Superman, Jurassic Park, Jaws, and ET.

This year’s marching band director is Bri Erdmann. Bri graduated from Wellsboro and was once a musician in the band. “It’s a lot different being the one in charge as opposed to being the one yelled at.” said Erdmann. She was given the job one month ago and has implemented some new drills and stand tunes, as well as a new time range for band camp. On Tuesday and Thursday, the band practices 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with lunch and dinner breaks.

This year’s Senior Drum Major is Ally Hepp. Ally auditioned last year for drum major and was chose from a group of five juniors. She has been in the Marching Band for four years. Ally enjoys her new position conducting for the band.

Once again, the band will preform their show before each home Hornets football game, with the exception of Homecoming, where the band will preform at half time. We hope to see you at Wellsboro’s football games to support the team and the band!
